§ 22-72. Same—Grant of pension.

  • (a)

    Any police officer complying with all other requirements of this article, who has served twenty (20) years in accordance with this article, upon application, shall be retired at one-half of the average monthly compensation of such police officer during the last thirty (30) months without regard to age.

    (b)

    Any police officer eligible for retirement under this section who served twenty (20) years shall be retired at one-half of the average monthly compensation of such police officer during the last thirty (30) months, plus two and one-half (2½) percent of the average monthly compensation of such police officer for each additional year's service in excess of twenty (20) years, but in no event will the total pension paid exceed three-fourths of the average monthly compensation of such police officer during the last thirty (30) months.

    (c)

    When a police officer has served for the necessary number of years and is otherwise eligible to retire as provided by this article, if such officer is discharged without cause by the city, the officer shall be eligible for a pension as provided in this article.
