§ 6-21. Powers and duties.

  • The powers, duties and responsibilities of the board are as follows:

    (1)

    To serve in an advisory capacity to the mayor and council with respect to all matters pertaining to the city airport;

    (2)

    To recommend improvements and changes in the existing system and with respect to all matters pertaining to the city airport;

    (3)

    To study and analyze the long range needs of the city for airport and aviation facilities and programs, including needs for and the cost of airport improvements;

    (4)

    To submit all such detailed studies, analyses, reports and suggestions to the mayor and council with respect to the city airport and aviation facilities, generally, as it deems appropriate;

    (5)

    To submit to the council, prior to May 1 of each year, the board's written recommendations as to the amount of funds the board considers necessary for maintenance, operation, management and development of the airport facilities;

    (6)

    To assist the mayor and council in all negotiations and transactions with county, state and federal agencies pertaining to the airport;

    (7)

    To assist the city in complying with all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the operation of the airport and aircraft. Also, to assist in protecting all the aerial approaches to the airport and its operating area, to formulate policies and guidelines as recommendations for the operation and maintenance of the airport;

    (8)

    To assist city officials in the leasing and operation of the airport facilities;

    (9)

    To assist city officials in the promotion and advertising of all services and facilities of the airport; and

    (10)

    To issue news releases to local and state news media subject to approval by the mayor.
