Division 1. GENERALLY |
§ 22-78. Disability allowance—Authorized.
The board of trustees is hereby authorized and empowered to pay out of the funds in the police pension and retirement system a disability allowance to police officers eligible, as provided in this article, in an amount equal to one-half of the average monthly compensation of such police officer, except as otherwise provided in this article; provided, that any policeman who receives an injury arising out of and in the course of the performance of his duty as a policeman, and who as a result of such injury is unable to perform the duties of a policeman, shall be carried on the regular police payroll and shall receive his full regular salary for the first three (3) months of such disability immediately following such injury. After the expiration of the three (3) months' period, if such policeman shall be disabled from the performance of his duty by reason of such injury, then he shall be awarded a disability allowance during such time as he shall be disabled as hereinafter provided.
